C. One thing that I was confused about was how Poseidon wasn't able to kill Odysseus. Odysseus was always at sea and Poseidon could have easily killed him with a huge wave or could have drowned him. “With that he rammed the clouds together-both hands clutching his trident-churned the waves into chaos, whipping all the gales from every quarter, shrouding over in thunderheads the earth and the sea at once-and night swept down from the sky-East and South Winds clashed and the raging West and North sprung from the heavens, roiled heaving breakers up and Odysseus’ knees quaked, his spirit too; numb with fear he spoke to his own great heart: ‘Wretched man-what becomes of me now, at last?’ (Book 5 Lines 321-329). THis quote explains how much Poseidon really has.
E. I feel that calypso has gone a little overboard capturing Odysseus and keeping him captive. I feel this because anyone should be able to live with someone they want. But the good thing is that after 7 years he was released. “And Calypso stowed two skins aboard-dark wine in one, the larger one held water-added a sack of rations, filled with her choicest meats to build his strength, and summoned a wind to bear him onward, fair and warm.”(Book 5 Lines 291-294). Even though calypso kept Odysseus captured and was cruel to him, she still has a weak side for him. Calypso helps Odysseus on his journey and shows that she still cares about him
F) A good relationship in book 5 of “The Odyssey” was with Odysseus and the rest of the gods. His relationship between him and the other gods are good because when he was in trouble the other gods would help him in his or her own specific way.
