D. I liked the quote when Grete gives food to Gregor: “There were old, half-rotten vegetables; bones from their supper, coated with a white gravy that had solidified; a few raisins and almonds; a cheese that two days earlier Gregor would have considered inedible; a dry slice of bread, a slice of bread and butter, and a slice of salted bread and butter” (26). I liked this quote because it shows that Grete still cares for her brother, even though he has turned into a bug. I thought it was thoughtful of her and it shows that Gregor and Grete have a strong relationship. E. I was surprised when Grete disposed of the food that Gregor ate as if I was infected: “…his unsuspecting sister sweep together with a broom not only the leftovers of what he had eaten, but even the foods Gregor hadn’t touched at all, as if those too were no longer usable; and he saw how she hastily dropped everything into a bucket, which she closed with a wooden cover, and then carried everything out” (27). I was surprised by Grete’s actions because I thought she would have just cleared everything normally, not taking all of those precautions, since she brought Gregor food in the first place. I didn’t expect her to act in that manner. G. If I was Gregor I would feel terrible. Being isolated in that one room must be hard, and being a bug only adds on to it. I wouldn’t feel happy at all and I would want to change back to a human as fast as possible.

Eddie DiTolla Mr. Thomas English 10 29 January 2014 Metamorphosis Chapter 2 D. A set of lines I liked when reading chapter was this “There were old, half-rotten vegetables; bones from their supper, coated with a white gravy that had solidified; a few raisins and almonds; a cheese that two days earlier Gregor would have considered inedible; a dry slice of bread, a slice of bread and butter, and a slice of salted bread and butter. Beside this she set down the bowl, now presumably reserved for Gregor’s exclusive use, which she had filled with water” Kafka 23.I liked this of lines because this tells me that even though Gregor family is still scared of him and will not go into the same room as him, but his sister still shows him great love when she notices that he did not drink the milk, so she brings him back garbage from the past couple of days along with a bowl of water. I. I agree with Chris Noble about how If I was Gregor I would feel terrible. Being isolated in that one room must be hard, and being a bug only adds on to it. I wouldn’t feel happy at all and I would want to change back to a human as fast as possible. F. The relationship that I have picked to write about is between Gregor and Gregor’s sister. I think that even though he is a insect they still get along pretty well and that Hregor’s siter still cares for him especially when “he watched with bulging eyes his unsuspecting sister sweep together with a broom not only the leftovers of what he had eaten, but even the foods Gregor hadn’t touched at all, as if those too were no longer usable; and he saw how she hastily dropped everything into a bucket, which she closed with a wooden cover, and then carried everything out” Kafka 24. Another is that she feeds Gregor twice a day with the left over scraps from the night before’ dinner and that dinner’s scraps.

I) I agree with Chris where he says “I was surprised when Grete disposed of the food that Gregor ate as if I was infected: “…his unsuspecting sister sweep together with a broom not only the leftovers of what he had eaten, but even the foods Gregor hadn’t touched at all, as if those too were no longer usable; and he saw how she hastily dropped everything into a bucket, which she closed with a wooden cover, and then carried everything out” (27). I was surprised by Grete’s actions because I thought she would have just cleared everything normally, not taking all of those precautions, since she brought Gregor food in the first place. I didn’t expect her to act in that manner.” I agree with this because I thought he and his sister were closer than that. She is treating gregor like he is some infected mutant (well he is) but I think that she would try and make him feel better somehow by throwing away his food normally. E. I was shocked when The father picked up a newspaper and the office manager’s cane and drived Gregor back into his bedroom. Gregor injures himself when he becomes stuck in the doorway, but the father shoves him through and slams the door anyway. You would think that the father would show some sort of sympathy towards the newly turned bug Gregor. F. I think that Gregor’s relationship with his father is changing because of the fact that he drove Gregor viciously into the room

B) Here we learn what Gregor’s life as a bug/monster is like. He starts to get used to the transformation and tries to find out how it happened. This acts as a foil to chapter 1 where he was transformed in the first place. Yet, we also see some of his brother/sister bond and how the family is like.
C) Wait, so he ends chapter one slowly bleeding to death, now he is all fine? Did he just sleep it off? So he’s still a weird bug and he has lost one why does Gregor remark, “What a quiet life the family led” (Kafka 22)? Is it unusual for his family to be quiet? Or are they just trying to comprehend what he has become? Why did he barricade himself in his room? Why does he talk about how he slept so much? Is it an important part of the plot or just side details? Why does he have to hide from his family? Is he trying to not be burdensome to them? Is he just trying to find out what happened to him? Why does it seem that he starts to stalk his family? Is he a large bug or is he tiny? By what it says he’s large.
G) I wouldn’t know what to do if I were Gregor’s sister. Her brother was somehow turned into a monster. And to make matters worse, he’s the main money maker in the family, and there is a smaller income than before.

B) This chapter is very important because of two things. As the chapter progresses you can see the growing relationship between Grete and Gregor, who has just transformed into a vermin. Grete, although still afraid of her older brother brother because she is a young girl. Another reason this chapter is important because it shows the burden that Gregor’s transformation has put on his family. His family is terrified, his father attacks him and he causes his own mother to pass out in fear. This could possibly lead to Gregor running away or even possibly committing suicide to rid his family of such burden.
C) I am beginning to wonder will Gregor’s family come face to face with the fact that their son is an enormous insect? Even if they do, when will it be? Will it be too late? Gregor is beginning to realize the enormity of the burden he is placing on his own family, which could lead to him leaving his home. Could Gregor’s realization possibly lead to his suicide?
E) After reading about all that Grete does for her older brother, I was beginning to think that it would be better if she were older. Grete I feel is only terrified because of her age, as all young girls are afraid of bugs, but maybe if she were older things would be different. If she was older she wouldn’t be so terrified, and maybe Gregor would have someone to talk to on a consistent basis which would be very good for him. Maybe if Grete could talk to Gregor he wouldn’t think of the problems that he is causing his family, Gregor could talk to his parents through his little sister, like a messenger.

C) I have a question about the quote “Now the sister also had to cook, as did the mother, but this was not much trouble, as the family ate almost nothing. Again and again Gregor heard one encouraging another in vain to eat and receiving no answer but: ‘Thank you, I’ve had enough,’ or something very similar.” My question is, is the family freaked out at all that he is a bug? I mean like is the reason they are not eating and refusing to eat because he is a bug or are they just trying to be rude to him to show awkwardness? The other quote was “Gregors only concern at that time had been to do whatever he could have the family forget as quickly as possible the financial misfortune that had plunged them into total despair.” My question is that how is he going to make them forget about this when he is a giant bug and the only thing he can do is creep them out? D) I really enjoyed the quote “In the course of the very first day, the father explained the family’s financial position and prospects to both the mother and the sister.” because I think it is kind of disrespectful that he doesn’t tell Gregor. I think that Gregor should have ate his father. Like honestly I just don’t know why he wont eat his father already. I also enjoyed the quote “Gregors only concern at that time had been to do whatever he could have the family forget as quickly as possible the financial misfortune that had plunged them into total despair.” I just liked the description here. I) I also agree with Chris as to if I was isolated I would hate it. Going back to it, I would have eaten my father already. I don’t really like how his father is treating him. I feel that if my son was a giant bug, I would worship him and treat him like a king.

I definitely agree with what Kyle is saying. Grete is an extremely important character in this book for many reasons. She gives Gregor hope for whatever will happen next, and provides food and other things that Gregor is now unable to get or do. She is also Gregor's only friend in his new life.
I don't understand why Gregor hasn't called for help to see what actually happened. I understand that he will probably never go back to being the same unless there is a miracle but at least try and see what is going on in his "body".
If I were either of Gregor's parents I would not have taken the same approach as they did. Although he is a bug, he is still their son and they should do whatever is takes to get him help.

E) I really enjoyed Grete’s presence in this chapter. I can imagine the relationship before Gregor’s incident of turning into a cockroach being a very close and good relationship. This is also the first time Gregor has been fed since the incident and it happened to be by his sister. She was also the one to clean up after him. So far, I really like Grete and all of her actions. She has not done anything for my decision to change. F) I think that the relationship with Gregor and his father is going to be very important. Since he was little, his father would beat him up. Recently he also shoved Gregor into his room and slammed the door on him. Just those incidents can show us that he can be pretty ruthless. H) I feel like this book is pretty is to set up as a costume director. I picture gregor in his cockroach self. I can see the brown of his back and also the tanner side of his stomach. I can see Grete being very nice and the parents being very mean. Since Gregor is a bug, he goes under the sofa as it says in the story so, it has to be a pretty big sofa for him to fit into it.

Anthony Gonzalez Metamorphosis Part 2
D. I like the lines on page 23, " so early int he morning that it was almost still night, Gregor had an oppurtunity to test the strength of his new resolutions, because the sister, nearly fully dressed, opned the door from the foyer and eagerly peered in. She did not immediately find him, but when she noticed him nderneath the sofa well, he had to be somewhere, he couldnt have just flown away she was startled that unable to control herself, she slammed thee door shut from the outside." I like this quote because it shows that Gregor is still adjusting to his new self and so is his family especially sister and that it is still very awkard with everything that is going on. I. I also agree with Marti about Grete's presence on this chapter. It takes on a new role and really shows the bond that her and her brother shared and how she might be a little scared of how Gregor looks but she still cares for him and loves him. F. I think the relationship between Gregor and Grete is going to stay constant and I think its even going to get stronger. I think that throughout this book that Grete is never going to give up on Gregor and will always be there for him.

C.) Why does Gregor hate the taste of milk now, even if says he's always been a fan of the taste of milk? Also, how come he seems cool about what happened? If that was me, I would've been freaking out and I would've been worried every singe second and I would've seemed for any help offered to change me back to normal. Why would Gregor's family treat him like he's some kind of monster? His own sister would've even touch the bowl he ate from with her bare hands.
E.) I didn't like how his family wasn't making the transition smooth. Her sister has been hiding and doesn't want to see him. She shuts the door when he's about to look. She wouldn't even touch the cereal bowl with her bare hands. They treat him like this after all of his hardworking to contribute and provide for his family. I feel really disgusted with how they would just forget about that. I'm also shocked at how calm Gregor seems. Why doesn't he get any help? If that was me, I would immediately call 911 for help and get me into a lab or something to zap me back to normal. I also don't like how Gregor has become more of an insect, crawling around his living room. He finds that he enjoys it too.
I.) I agree with Jack. I think anybody in the world would have called for help by now. I would have called for help the very first time I noticed. From a human you turn into a human size bug. How could you not freak out and call for help?

C) It is unclear to me whether or not Gregor's family will realize that he is a giant bug. How long will it take for them to realize? Will Gregor have already left them by then to relieve their burden?
I) I agree with Kyle and his remarks on this chapter. Grete and Gregor's relationship continues to grow even though Gregor has been transformed into a huge insect. In addition, on a more important note, Gregor realizes the burden that has been put on his family especially after his mother passed out after seeing what he had been turned into.
E) I noticed that it seems that Gregor needs guidance and someone to talk to to express his thoughts and feelings. Although Grete grows closer to her brother in his time of need, she is still too young to fully understand what Gregor is going through. If Grete was older, she would be more mature and Gregor could look to her for guidance, almost like a guidance counselor. This could help Gregor make tough decisions because he would now have someone else to communicate with and someone that would give him a second opinion.

Peter Boustani C. Why is Gregor’s father so irrational and such an idiot. I mean understandably, when you don’t have a great relationship with your son, he spontaneously turns into a bug, and from a one sided description, gives the impression that he attacked your wife, I feel that there was no second thought in his mind to try and attack Gregor which made me really angry at Gregors dad. D. What I really liked in this part was that this strange metamorphosis was almost a way of making the family closer. We learn that Gregor grew apart from his family but maintained a strong relationship with his sister, even trying to send her to music school. It was very nice to see that Gregor was very happy about the family not blowing all of the money that Gregor had gotten for them. I liked how Gregor took this as them appreciating him which I think he deserved although I really did not like how during the discussion of getting new jobs we find out his mother has asthma and his father has gained a significant amount of weight. B. As hinted about in yesterday’s discussion, I see this chapter playing as a very important piece of the entire story as a whole. With Gregor’s sister bringing him food and then cleaning and then telling their parents how much he ate shows that their relationship must be somewhat strong. As the reader, you do not get much back story and almost have to assume or imagine much of the back story having to do with Gregor and his family so it seems as though Gregor and his sister did not have a good stereotypical brother-sister relationship but are like two people who care for each other that are in the same situation, that being them both living in a poor household.

I can make a connection when Gregor gets milk and cereal for something to eat and not enjoy it like he used to. Milk was his favorite drink and now he can't stand it. When I was little I love the taste of baloney and now I can't even look at it.
I feel bad for Gregor. This is because Gregor struggles to reconcile his human past with his new life and physical form. "Did he really want the warm room, so cozily appointed with heirlooms, transformed into a lair, where he might, of course, be able to creep, unimpeded, in any direction, though forgetting his human past swiftly and totally?" If I was Gregor I would try to adapt as quickly as possible to my new physical features.
I liked the quote when Grete gives food to Gregor: “There were old, half-rotten vegetables; bones from their supper, coated with a white gravy that had solidified; a few raisins and almonds; a cheese that two days earlier Gregor would have considered inedible; a dry slice of bread, a slice of bread and butter, and a slice of salted bread and butter”. This quote shows how strong of a relationship the two of them have because Grete gives him food and cares for him even though he is a bug.
