Peter Boustani D. I really enjoyed the part in book 9 when Odysseus pulls the trick calling himself nobody so that when the Cyclops called out saying Nobody is attacking me, it would create confusion and no alarm. "Nobody friends, Nobody’s killing me now fraud and not by force?" I specifically liked this part because as a huge fan of the Percy Jackson series, there is a lot of references to older Greek mythological stories and one of these was when Percy faces a Cyclops and has an invisibility cloak and the same effect of raising no alarm by telling the Cyclops his name was nobody worked again and thus he was able to "win" or succeed in what he was trying to do. C. What created some confusion while reading this the first time was why the Cyclops who says that he resents all of the other gods yet calls to speak to Posiden of all gods. Once again, from a reference in the Prrcy Jackson and the Olympian series, it is said the Posiden is the father of all Cyclopses which could and does make the most sense as to why a Cyclops who states that he doesn't want anything to do with other gods calls to one imperticular. I. I understand but do not feel the same frustration as Kevin because I could see how the Cyclops not listening or respecting the gods in any way may be frustrating but I felt as though when you are that powerful and if the gods don't treat you with any significance I don't feel as though they should have to either.

Book 9, Lines 288-630
If I was the Character Odysseus I would do many things different from the actual Odysseus. The first that I would do different would not stay in the dark, and creepy cave where I giant lives. I would have listened to my men, taken the items in the cave and left. Odysseus deciding to stay had risked his life and the life of members in his crew. The other thing that I would not have done was told the giant my name. By telling Polyphemus his name caused the giant to pray to his father Poseidon for revenge upon Odysseus, which essentially caused him to get trapped on the island for 10 years.
One thing in the book that I was confused about was why did Polyphemus turned so hostile so quickly, and why he eat the 2 men. He was being hospitable and kind to the men and Odysseus and than “turns around” and eats them. Another thing that confused me was why Odysseus told Polyphemus what his name was. That was the reason that Poseidon was so mad at Odysseus for this long and why he was trapped on an island.
Regarding Kyle's question I believe that he only ate two of the men because he wanted to make an impression and show that he will eat them if they do not cooperate. Obviously his plan does not work because Odysseus is extremely smart and comes up with a plan to escape the Cyclops.

D) One line that I particularly enjoyed was the line in which I enjoyed was the line in which Odysseus tricked the Cyclopes by telling him that his name was nobody. It states “Nobody- that’s my name. Nobody- so my mother and father call me, all my friends.”. The rea-joke-son I liked this line because it helps lead up to the rest of Odysseus plan. This also allows him to get him and his men from the evil clutches of the Cyclopes. It also allowed him not only for him to save his men but if his planned failed then he would be the last one to survive and allow him to think of a new and better plan. E) One character that I did not like in this reading was the Cyclopes. The reason I did not like the Cyclopes was because he believed he was able to do whatever he wanted and the rules of the Gods did not apply to him. Another reason I did not like him was because the Cyclopes brutally murdered Odysseus men just for food. As it says “We Cyclopes never blink at Zeus and Zeus’s shield of storm or thunder, or any other blessed god- we’ve got more force by far.”. This line makes him think he is better than the Gods and nothing he does has any consequences. V) One thing that I did not understand was how the Cyclopes believed he was stronger than the Gods but yet prayed to them in his time of need. One example of this was “If I really am your son and you claim to be my father- come, grant that Odysseus, raider of cities, Laertes’ son who makes his home in Ithica, never reaches home.”.
